Support Groups

Why Attend a Support Group Meeting?

The purpose of a support group is sharing with and supporting one another for the mutual benefit of the total group. Some essential elements of a support group are:

  • Active, involved listening to others
  • Others' care and being heard
  • Meeting and accepting each others' needs
  • Receiving understanding and giving an opportunity for others to be understood
  • An awareness of common needs and strengths
  • A place to find courage and to take risks
  • Providing an atmosphere to get in touch with oneself
  • Positive and negative views can be expressed without judgment or labeling

If you would like to begin a support group in your area or assist with a support group listed below, please contact the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi at 601-981-1021. If you would like to receive your support group flyer by email, please send all necessary contact information to Dana Pierce at dpierce@msbia.org.
